What is lampalizumab?

Your immune system consists of many components—all of which work together to keep you healthy. At times, the immune system works in ways that cause damage to your body. The progression of GA may be caused by your immune system acting in ways that may damage your vision.

Lampalizumab is an investigational drug, which means that health authorities have not yet approved it for the treatment of GA. It is a humanized monoclonal antibody (an antibody that is made in a lab, rather than by your own immune system). Lampalizumab is being tested in these clinical research trials to see whether it may reduce the activation of the immune system pathway believed to play a role in GA.
