Making informed decisions about your eye health is one of the most important things you can do. Taking the time to learn about Geographic Atrophy and weighing your options is a great place to start. Here are several patient advocacy groups that can help.

  • Prevent Blindness America is the nation’s leading volunteer eye health and safety organization and is committed to fighting blindness and saving sight. Here you’ll find information on eye health and safety, vision screening, and eye reports and research. You can also get detailed information about age-related macular degeneration.

  • MD Support is a global non-profit public service organization. Founded by retired educator Dan Roberts, Macular Degeneration Support provides information and support for people who have macular degeneration and other similar eye diseases. Here you’ll have access to an audiovisual library that offers free presentations on a variety of topics, including diet and nutrition, low vision devices, technology, and rehabilitation, as well as motivational talks, and tips on practical living. You’ll also find information on support groups and personal accounts of experiences with macular degeneration (MD) treatments.

  • Living Well with Low Vision is jointly supported by MD Support and Prevent Blindness America and offers up-to-date information and free materials for people living with low vision, including self-help guides and tools, caregiver support, and resource links to more than 1,600 low vision organizations.

  • AMD.org (Macular Degeneration Partnership) is an educational program of the Discovery Eye Foundation, a non-profit organization. AMD.org provides information, resources, and support for people with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) as well as family members and caregivers. Here, you can learn more about dry AMD; request an AMD Toolkit, a packet of large print information, booklets, and resources; and sign up for an e-newsletter that includes monthly updates about ongoing research and treatment options.

  • Foundation Fighting Blindness funds thousands of research studies at hundreds of prominent institutions worldwide that are exploring preventions, treatments, and cures for people affected with degenerative eye diseases. The Foundation has 50 volunteer-led groups across the U.S. dedicated to raising funds, increasing public awareness, and providing support to their communities. You can get detailed information about age-related macular degeneration, learn about outreach programs, and get inspired by individuals leading fulfilling lives despite their disease.
